Horseflex Intestinal herbs: A 100% natural mix based on herbs and minerals that have a positive effect on the intestinal flora of a horse. The mix consists of fenugreek, oregano, wormwood, cloves, and rosemary, and it also contains prebiotic fibers.
Healthy intestinal flora with probiotics
The digestion of a horse starts in the mouth. Saliva helps to move the food into the esophagus towards the stomach. A horse has a small stomach as it eats small amounts during the day. This means that there is a constant stream of food from the stomach into the intestines. The food comes first into the small intestine, then the cecum, colon, and finally the rectum where the manure is formed. A horse produces manure fifteen times a day.
In the appendix and large intestine is the roughage mainly digested by bacteria. The roughage moves slowly through this part of the system. Because of this, is the body able to extract as many nutrients as possible from poor, and hard-to-digest food. Because of the fact that multiple bacterial strains live in the intestines, it also means that you can’t suddenly change rations (also not with roughage). Every strain has its functions and the bacterial strains need some time to adapt to the new food.
